The implicit motor learning use as a therapeutic tool in frail elderly people
2016
To write, take, walk, talk is a part of our daily. Our motor ability is used to change depending on our environment and our skill, acquired thanks to our experience, learnings, and according to our age. We strive to find optimal solutions, to be more performants, more efficient. But we must be able to discern to act well and act to better discern. This « perception-action » coupling is the basis of the organization of motor control. Human can discern through several sensory systems (Visual, auditory, proprioceptive) intrinsic informations, coming from his own body, and extrinsic informations, from his environment. All of these informations are in the service of the movement and actions of d…
Involvment of docosanoïc acid (C22=0), and of very long chain fatty acids (tetracosanoïc acid (C24=0), hexacosanoïc acid (C26=0) in Alzheimer's disea…
2013
In the brain and in the plasma of patients with Alzheimer’s disease (AD), marked accumulation of C22:0 and of very long chain fatty acids (C24:0 ; C26:0) have been reported. Important decreases of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA; C22:6 n-3) have also been described as well as quantitative and qualitative modifications of plasmalogens. Altogether, these lipid modifications suggest an implication of peroxisomal metabolism disorders in the physiopathology of AD. Therefore, the biological activities of C22:0, C24:0 and C26:0 have been studied on human neuronal cells SK-N-BE. On these cells, the lipotoxicity of fatty acids (C22:0, C24:0 and C26:0) leads to various cellular modifications: topographical…
Involvement of Kv3.1 potassium chanels in 7-ketocholesterol, 24S-hydroxycholesterol and C24 : 0-induced lipotoxicity on 158N and BV-2 cells : relatio…
2017
Potassium (K+) is involved in the regulation of cellular excitability, cell cycle regulation, cell viability, neuroprotection and maintenance of microglial and oligodendrocytic functions. Potassium dysfunction, described in several neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's Disease (AD), multiple sclerosis (MS), Parkinson's disease and Huntington's disease, may be a potential therapeutic target. The underlying toxic mechanisms of these neurodegenerative pathologies involve oxysterols, which are oxidized cholesterol derivatives, and fatty acids including those associated with peroxisomal metabolism. 7-ketocholesterol (7KC), 24S-hydroxycholesterol (24S-OHC) and tetracosanoic acid (C24:0),…
2021
International audience; Can geriatric technologies really be effective among elderly people with Alzheimer's dementia and living in institutions? Our controlled, randomized, single-blind, comparative study attempted to answer this question. The study was conducted in two nursing homes among 31 subjects with an average age of 79.4 ± 6.9, and an average MMSE score of 12.2 ± 3.6. The results show that the Pepper robot, compared to a soft toy, is capable not only of entertaining, but above all of inducing qualitative and quantitative clinical effects. During the 20-minute sessions, a decrease in apathy was observed with Pepper (6.7 ± 6.5 min vs. 18.4 ± 3.8 min, P < 0.001), a decrease in ambulat…
2011
The aim of this thesis is to investigate the shape change in hippocampus due to the atrophy in Alzheimer’s disease (AD). To this end, specific algorithms and methodologies were developed to segment the hippocampus from structural magnetic resonance (MR) images and model variations in its shape. We use a multi-atlas based segmentation propagation approach for the segmentation of hippocampus which has been shown to obtain accurate parcellation of brain structures. We developed a supervised method to build a population specific atlas database, by propagating the parcellations from a smaller generic atlas database. Well segmented images are inspected and added to the set of atlases, such that t…
Evaluation of the animal-assisted therapy in Alzheimer's disease
2017
Animal-assisted therapy sessions have been set up in a protected unit for patients with a dementia-related syndrome. The aim is to measure the effects of animal-assisted therapy on behavioural disorders in daily life and care. The results obtained provided some interesting areas to explore and recommendations with a view to optimising the implementation of such a system.
